Styx Blades Of Greed Demo Opens The Wall Early

Styx is back in playable form ahead of launch, and I see Cyanide giving players early access through a new demo. The Styx: Blades of Greed demo is live now and offers roughly the first hour of the game. It drops players into The Wall, an area already familiar to those who saw the game during earlier previews. For newcomers, it works as a direct introduction to stealth systems, vertical movement, and the tone that defines the series.

The demo is available exclusively via Steam, even though the full game will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Cyanide has confirmed that progress made in the demo carries over to the full release, which is scheduled for February 19. That makes the demo more than a technical sample. Time spent learning routes, enemy behavior, and tools will matter once the full version unlocks.

Styx: Blades of Greed takes place after the events of Styx: Shards of Darkness. The studio has been clear that prior knowledge of the series is not required. I see the demo reinforcing that claim. Systems are introduced quickly, and the narrative context stays light, focusing more on immediate objectives than lore recap.

Alongside the demo, Cyanide released a new trailer narrated by Styx himself. The goblin explains his obsession with Quartz, a valuable substance that drives the plot and much of the conflict. The trailer also shows new equipment, including a glider that expands movement options and opens alternative paths through large spaces. It reinforces how traversal remains central to the experience, alongside stealth and selective combat.

Victoria Phillips Kennedy, who reported on the demo release, framed her anticipation plainly.

“Styx: Blades of Greed is probably one of my most anticipated games this year.”— Victoria Phillips Kennedy

That enthusiasm lines up with hands-on impressions from earlier previews. The game continues to emphasize infiltration, sabotage, and improvisation over direct confrontation. Styx remains fragile, and mistakes carry consequences. The demo communicates that clearly within minutes, especially when encounters escalate faster than expected.

Cyanide’s decision to release a full-hour demo close to launch signals confidence. It also reflects how the studio expects players to engage with Blades of Greed: slowly, deliberately, and with attention to layout and timing. For those interested in the series or stealth games more broadly, the demo offers a grounded look at what the final release will deliver.
