A Wild West Meets Pokémon Concept

Developed by content creator Blurbs, the mod reimagines Arthur Morgan as a Pokémon trainer. Instead of traditional wildlife encounters, animals across the game world are treated as “Pokémon” that can be captured and used in battles.

Arthur’s throwing knives have been replaced with Poké Balls, allowing players to attempt capturing animals directly. As in classic Pokémon games, players also receive a starter creature, which is obtained from Uncle at the camp.

Once creatures are added to the player’s party, battles can be initiated against NPCs by targeting them and firing a shot, triggering a combat sequence inspired by the Pokémon formula.

Faithful Details and Gameplay Touches

The mod includes several details that closely mirror the feel of traditional Pokémon games. Battle transitions feature a familiar swirling screen effect, while the interface and fonts are styled after early-generation Pokémon titles.

Players can also nickname captured creatures, and while full attack animations are not present, the mod includes appropriate visual cues for entering battle and fainting.

In addition, certain members of the Van der Linde gang have been reimagined as Gym Leaders, and the mod even includes hidden battles for players to discover.

A Creative Addition to the Modding Scene

This is not the first ambitious project from the creator, who previously released a mod that transformed Red Dead Redemption 2 into a Mortal Kombat-style experience complete with finishing moves.

The Pokémon-inspired mod highlights the creativity within the modding community, where projects range from small tweaks to full gameplay overhauls. For Red Dead Redemption 2 in particular, mods continue to expand the game years after its original release in 2018.
