ID Software Might Be Working on a New Quake Video Game
Over the last few years, id Software studio has made three standalone single-player DOOM video games, including last year’s DOOM: The Dark Ages, which had the biggest launch in the history of the studio’s activity. And there is a big chance another cult classic shooter may be revived very soon.
As reported by Windows Central, a new Quake or Hexen video game could be announced during Bethesda’s QuakeCon 2026 or Xbox Showcase 2026, as Microsoft now owns the rights to both franchises. The information has been unveiled by editor Jez Corden, as he heard such rumors; however, it should be considered with a grain of salt, as none of this is confirmed.
We haven’t seen standalone Quake and Hexen games for a while; the latest Quake installment was the free-to-play Quake Champions released in 2022, and the last single-player Quake was Quake 4, released in 2005, while Hexen 2, the latest franchise entry, was released back in 1997.
