Elder Scrolls Online Finally Brings Community Add-Ons to Consoles

ZeniMax Online Studios has officially enabled community-created add-ons for console players in The Elder Scrolls Online, though this new feature is limited to Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. While the functionality was technically introduced in the free Update 46 on June 2, it wasn't fully activated until June 23, marking the first time console players can personalize their experience with player-made modifications.

🎮 A First for Consoles After a Decade

Add-ons have long been a staple of the PC version since ESO's original launch in April 2014, allowing players to modify user interfaces, track quests, and manage inventory with more flexibility. Despite ESO launching on consoles in 2015, console users had been locked out of this feature—until now. With this long-awaited addition, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S users can now browse and install supported add-ons directly via the in-game Options menu.

However, it’s important to note that the current functionality is limited strictly to UI-focused add-ons. Performance enhancements, visual overhauls, and gameplay modifications remain unsupported for now.

📲 Add-Ons Now Available for Current-Gen, But Not All Consoles

As of now, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are excluded from this add-on rollout. ZeniMax hasn’t commented on whether support will extend to those platforms, but the studio did confirm that crossplay is actively in development for all versions of the game—though no official launch window has been announced.

This raises questions about how crossplay might handle differences in gameplay experiences between players with and without access to community add-ons, but more clarity is expected as development progresses.

🌍 ESO Keeps Evolving After 10+ Years

Even after more than a decade, The Elder Scrolls Online continues to thrive. During April’s ESO Direct event, ZeniMax teased new content, including:

  • Visual upgrades
  • New seasonal dungeons and events
  • The return of Molag Bal, ESO’s original villain

These changes, paired with the ongoing expansion of the console add-on system, signal a long-term commitment to keeping ESO fresh and customizable for its diverse player base.
