Marvel Rivals Unveils Avengers-Themed Roadmap Leading to Doomsday

Developer NetEase has unveiled an extensive eight-month crossover plan for Marvel Rivals, centered around the Avengers films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The roadmap, titled “The Path to Doomsday,” outlines a steady rollout of themed content that will culminate alongside the theatrical release of Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026.

Rather than a one-off event, this initiative represents a long-term content strategy designed to sustain engagement throughout 2026.

Current State of the Game

Marvel Rivals is currently in Season 6, with Season 7 launching on March 20. The latest season introduced Deadpool and Elsa Bloodstone, bringing the total playable roster to 47 heroes.

According to SteamDB, the game recently reached a 24-hour peak of approximately 90,000 concurrent players on Steam. While still a healthy figure for a PC audience, it is significantly below the title’s all-time high of 644,000 concurrent players at launch.

At the same time, competitive pressure has intensified with renewed interest in Overwatch 2, making sustained content momentum crucial for Marvel Rivals.

The Path to Doomsday Roadmap

On March 4, NetEase revealed a roadmap featuring five key milestones, each linked to a major Avengers installment. Over the next eight months, the game will receive:

• New limited-time game modes
• Themed in-game events
• Infinity Saga-inspired content
• A major update tied directly to Avengers: Doomsday

The roadmap confirms that December’s update will introduce all-new in-game content synchronized with the film’s premiere.

April Event: Loki Asymmetrical PvP Mode

The crossover begins in April with a limited-time mode inspired by The Avengers.

This event introduces an asymmetrical PvP experience in which one player controls Loki while six others attempt to defeat him. For this mode, Loki receives a redesigned skill set focused on illusions, deception, and Infinity Stone-based abilities capable of manipulating enemy heroes.

Opposing players will be able to summon the Hulk after completing specific objectives during the match. Promotional materials also indicate Loki will receive a skin modeled after his 2012 MCU appearance.

Future Phases of the Crossover

While NetEase has not yet disclosed the specifics of the June, August, October, and December updates, the roadmap structure strongly suggests additional Infinity Saga-themed content inspired by:

• Avengers: Age of Ultron
• Avengers: Infinity War
• Avengers: Endgame

Players can reasonably expect more limited-time modes and MCU-based cosmetic additions. There is also community speculation surrounding potential hero releases tied to the event, including characters such as Thanos or Doctor Doom, though no official confirmation has been provided.

Marvel Rivals and the MCU

Since launch, Marvel Rivals has integrated numerous MCU collaborations, primarily through cosmetic skins available in the in-game store. The title currently features over 25 MCU-inspired skins, drawing from films such as:
