IO Interactive has unveiled 007 First Light — a new James Bond game
IO Interactive, the studio behind the Hitman series, has officially announced its new game — 007 First Light. This time, the developers will tell an original story about how James Bond becomes a 00 agent. The plot isn’t tied to any films or books — it’s a completely new interpretation of the character created specifically for the game.
In 007 First Light, players will follow the path of a young MI6 agent who is just starting his career and must earn his 00 status. Essentially, it’s an origin story of the world’s most famous spy. The game is built around the idea: Earn The Number.
Gameplay is promised in the classic IO Interactive style: a focus on stealth, planning, and carefully designed missions that offer multiple ways to approach objectives. Some will choose a quiet approach, others will use deception, and some may opt for direct action. The game runs on the Glacier Engine — the same one used in Hitman — so players can expect high-quality visuals and flexible mechanics.
A release for Nintendo Switch 2 has already been officially confirmed — this was announced back in April during the Switch 2 Direct presentation. According to early information, the game is also expected to launch on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, though full details have yet to be revealed.
The full presentation of 007 First Light will take place on June 6, 2025, during the IO Interactive Showcase. Developers will show gameplay, a trailer, and share full details about the project for the first time.
Importantly, 007 First Light is the first part of a planned James Bond trilogy. The main character is being created from scratch, with no connection to actors from the films. The project is being developed in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, which owns the rights to the franchise.
