Elden Ring Nightreign Hits 3.5 Million Sales — Duo Co-Op Is Finally Coming
Elden Ring Nightreign has already sold 3.5 million copies — and that’s just within five days after release. At launch, the game received mixed reviews on Steam, but over time, the rating improved to “mostly positive.”
Compared to the original Elden Ring, which sold 30 million copies since 2022, Nightreign still has a long way to go. Even last year’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion managed to hit 5 million sales in just three days.
As a standalone multiplayer project, Nightreign had a strong start with 2 million copies sold on day one. However, it also received a wave of criticism. The main complaints focused on the harsh solo experience, the absence of duo co-op, no voice chat, and some outdated mechanics. And the old problem remains: finding three well-coordinated players for a smooth experience is still not that easy.
This week, FromSoftware released a patch to make solo play more accessible. Despite some matchmaking issues over the weekend, overall player sentiment has noticeably improved.
Producer Yasuhiro Kitao personally thanked the community on social media:
“Nightreign differs quite a bit in design from our previous titles and has its own unique elements. Even so, many of you have boldly stepped into this world, and for that, we are very grateful. Like Demon’s Souls or Sekiro, it may feel overwhelming at first, but once you overcome the early challenges, you’ll find that same sense of accomplishment the game was designed to offer. We hope you enjoy it.”
But that’s not all! In addition to the upcoming DLC later this year, the developers plan to keep adding new content. This June, updated battles with Nightlords will arrive, followed later by the long-awaited Duo Expeditions.
Many players have been waiting for this — since launch, one of the main questions was why the game didn’t offer two-player co-op. Currently, Elden Ring Nightreign only supports solo play or teams of three. The duo mode should finally fill this obvious gap.
As for my opinion on the Duo mode — I fully agree with most players. First, it will make the game easier. And second, it will simply be a lot more fun. It’s great to see that the developers are actively listening to the community and making the game better.
