Minecraft Movie Now Available on Digital Platforms
Warner Bros. just dropped A Minecraft Movie on digital services, and you can now stream the year’s biggest block-based blockbuster right from your couch. After five weeks in theaters and over $900 million earned worldwide, it’s finally made the jump to Prime Video and Apple TV.
It’s available to rent for $19.99 or buy for $24.99, which is roughly the price of two movie tickets—except now you also get popcorn all over your own carpet instead of a cinema floor. Family movie night just got 100% more pixelated.
Yeah, it’s a bit early. With its global haul creeping close to a billion dollars, many assumed Warner Bros. would keep the movie on the big screen a little longer. But the studio clearly wants to ride the digital wave while the hype is still hot.
Despite missing the billion-dollar milestone (for now), A Minecraft Movie has already shattered several records. It scored the biggest First Week Box Office for a video game adaptation in U.S. history with a massive $157 million opening. It later climbed to $816 million, then blew past $900 million globally. At this rate, there’s still a shot it could cross that billion-dollar mark in the next few weeks, especially with lingering theatrical runs and the upcoming physical release.
Still, it’s now the second-highest-grossing video game film of all time, only trailing behind The Super Mario Bros Movie ($1.36 billion).

The Chicken Jokey Moment Is Already Legendary
If you’ve seen the film—or heard a kid talk about it nonstop—you probably already know about the " Chicken Jokey " scene. The character shows up in the final act, riding a chicken into battle with chaotic energy that rivals a Marvel finale. It's absurd, loud, and apparently irresistible to meme culture.
“When the Chicken Jokey shows up your kid can throw popcorn all over your own floor instead of the movie theater.”
That one moment launched hundreds of TikToks, inspired a 34-second meme song that somehow cracked the Billboard Hot 100, and even led to someone bringing a real chicken into a theater. Yes, someone brought livestock to a screening. That’s the kind of cultural impact you just don’t see every day.
Jack Black’s return to video game cinema (following his performance as Bowser in The Super Mario Bros Movie) is already turning into a meta competition between his two most iconic gaming roles. While Bowser still holds the title for box office king, Steve is catching up fast—and now he’s got home-field advantage.
That said, A Minecraft Movie has been knocked down from the top spot a few times. It lost its #1 position in week three to Sinners, another Warner Bros. title, and was later overtaken by Thunderbolts. But even now, it’s still playing in some theaters—just not as prominently.

Physical Edition
The digital release is only the first wave. A physical edition is planned for June 24, and while there’s no confirmed date for when it will hit Max (Warner Bros.’ streaming service), it’s safe to assume that’ll happen sometime in late June or early July.
So if you missed it in theaters—or just want to rewatch the Chicken Jokey scene a dozen more times—you can now do it on demand. Just maybe put a towel down on the couch first.
A Minecraft Movie is already a massive hit, with record-breaking stats and the kind of meme-driven momentum you just can’t plan. Between the wild First Week Box Office numbers, the bizarre real-world chicken appearances, and digital availability, it’s clear this isn’t just a film for kids—it’s a pop culture event.
Block by block, Minecraft is proving it’s more than just a game. Now the question is whether the sequel—inevitable at this point—will find a new mob to meme into the spotlight.
