The story producer responsible for the Dead Space trilogy has expressed the opinion that he would "almost completely overhaul Dead Space 3"

Chuck Beaver, the story producer of the Dead Space trilogy, shared his thoughts on Dead Space 3 in a recent interview with YouTuber CaptainBribo. Beaver admitted that he wasn't entirely satisfied with this installment of the game and expressed his opinions on why it didn't perform as well as its predecessors.

During the interview, Beaver explained that in the gaming industry, financial considerations sometimes force the artistic vision to take a back seat. He mentioned the need to meet a return on investment figure and how it can influence creative decisions. Beaver also suggested that the limited number of players interested in single-player horror experiences at the time might have contributed to the game's performance.

Beaver elaborated on how an attempt to broaden the game's appeal led to an expansion of Dead Space 3's design. However, this expansion, which introduced new gameplay mechanics such as a revamped shooting system, ended up alienating the existing fanbase, as it departed from the series' core elements that players had enjoyed in previous titles.

The introduction of cooperative multiplayer further exacerbated the problem, as it deviated from the series' traditional single-player horror experience. Beaver stated that Dead Space 3 lost its clear sense of direction, leaving fans uncertain about the series' vision.

In hindsight, Beaver expressed his desire to completely rework the project, with a focus on the ending of Dead Space 3, where the protagonist, Isaac, undergoes a psychological breakdown. He envisioned a narrative where the player would experience an unreliable narrator, similar to the character Tyler Durden from the movie "Fight Club," leaving players in doubt about what was real and what wasn't. Beaver's proposed approach would have aimed to recapture the psychological horror and uncertainty that characterized the earlier games in the series.
