Rumors: eUnited has closed its doors
According to The Esports Advocate, the North American esports organization eUnited has closed its doors. It is reported that only the CEO and founder Adam Stein remained at the club, while the rest of the staff left at the end of 2022.
Currently, eUnited no longer has employees or players to handle day-to-day operations or compete in championships, and so the organization is leaving the scene.
The latest employee to leave eUnited was Matthew Potthoff, who announced on Dec. 31 that "it was his last day at eUnited," according to a source familiar with the situation. Along with Potthoff, social media manager Connor Langdon, graphic designer Isaac Waller and videographer Luis Ortiz were fired in late December. All of them were the last remaining employees of the club.
In addition, from late August to early September 2022, the North American organization also quietly laid off a number of employees. At the end of last year, all remaining players were also fired. Last season, eUnited competed in PUBG, Gears of War Pro League, Halo Championship Series and Rocket League Championship Series but dropped all teams.
Sources from The Esports Advocate suggest that eUnited will be in the business of selling assets, looking for new investments, or filing for bankruptcy. Also, the organization has not published messages on their social networks over the past month, which only confirms the rumors about a possible exit from the industry.
eUnited was founded in 2016 by Adam Stein, California firm M&A Real Estate Partners and James Dakino. In six years, the organization has grown into several key esports disciplines, including PUBG, Rocket League, Gears of War, SplitGate, Halo, Call of Duty, CS:GO, Rainbow Six and League of Legends.
