Rumors: The Guard intends to sell their CDL and OWL franchises
According to The Esports Advocate, the North American esports organization The Guard intends to sell its CDL and OWL franchises. It is reported that the teams Los Angeles Guerrillas and Los Angeles Gladiators will continue to play under their tags until the club finds new owners.
This decision comes from Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, which is the owner of The Guard. None of the reports mentioned VALORANT and Apex Legends teams, the future of which remains unknown.
The information was indirectly confirmed by MarkyB, head coach of the Los Angeles Guerrillas:
I can't put into words how devastated I am. I moved to Los Angeles Guerrillas because of the organization, the people behind the scenes. Now it's all gone. All I know for sure is that the team is going to put all their efforts into the rest of this season.
If new owners for the Los Angeles Guerrillas and Los Angeles Gladiators are not found before the end of the season, the club will have to close teams and withdraw from esports disciplines.
In November 2021, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment launched its esports division, The Guard, bringing together the Los Angeles Guerrillas, Los Angeles Gladiators, and VALORANT roster under its umbrella.
The reports come just hours after it was revealed that Kroenke Sports & Entertainment has cut jobs across several departments of its esports division, The Guard.
During its existence, the Los Angeles Guerrillas team managed to win the Call of Duty League 2022: Stage 2 Major, and also reached the semi-finals of the Call of Duty League 2020 Week 9 - Minnesota. In turn, Los Angeles Gladiators are the champions of Overwatch League 2021 - Countdown Cup, Overwatch League 2022 - Kickoff Clash and Overwatch League 2022 - Midseason Madness.
