X-Ray Scanner system for opening cases will appear in Germany in Counter-Strike
Starting March 16, players in Germany will receive a new “X-Ray Scanner” tab in their inventory. Through it, all containers will be opened, as the standard case-opening mechanic will be replaced with the X-Ray system for German users.
The X-Ray Scanner allows players to first see the item inside a container and then decide whether to open it. The scanner works with all container types, including Weapon Cases, Sticker Capsules, and Souvenir Packages. However, only one container can be scanned at a time, and once scanned, the container is consumed and disappears from the inventory.
Before using the system for the first time, players will receive an exclusive non-tradable item, Genuine P250 | X-ray, which must be claimed first. In practice, this acts as a kind of initial buy-in cost, after which players can begin scanning other containers.
The opening process works slightly differently from the standard case system. After scanning a container, the player can see the item inside it, but to scan another container they must first purchase and claim the revealed item. Only after doing so will the system allow them to scan the next case.
In practice, the mechanic largely keeps the familiar spending model: players still need to pay to obtain the item, but now they see the result first and then decide whether to claim it.
Community reaction to the X-Ray Scanner

The introduction of the X-Ray Scanner system in Germany sparked active discussions within the Counter-Strike community. Many users on social media believe the update does not significantly change the case-opening economy, but instead simply adds an extra step to the process.
On Reddit, players note that the system effectively works the same as the standard case-opening mechanic. One user explained it as follows:
“You can scan a case before paying… but you must buy the skin revealed to scan another case.”
According to them, the new mechanic only changes the order of actions: players first see the item and then decide whether to pay for it, but the overall cost likely remains the same.
Other users pointed out that a similar system has already been used in France for several years, so for part of the community the change was not surprising.
However, some players reacted skeptically, suggesting that the system was introduced mainly to comply with or work around legal restrictions related to loot boxes in certain countries.
There is also discussion about potential abuse of the new mechanic. Some community members speculate that the system could encourage players to create multiple accounts to scan cases and only open those that reveal valuable items.
