Treyarch Teases Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Multiplayer Maps

Treyarch has begun pulling back the curtain on what players can expect from Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s multiplayer maps at launch. Following last year’s Gulf War–themed Black Ops 6, the upcoming installment takes a bold leap into the future—the franchise’s first futuristic setting since 2018.

Smaller “Strike” Maps Return

Just like in Black Ops 6, four of Black Ops 7’s launch maps will be smaller “Strike” maps, initially designed for fast-paced modes such as 2v2 Gunfight and Face Off. Despite their compact size, these maps will also appear in traditional 6v6 playlists, offering a versatile balance between tactical engagements and frantic, close-quarters firefights. Fans have largely embraced this design choice, praising how tighter layouts increase the frequency of encounters and keep matches action-packed.

Inside the Map Design Philosophy

In a new four-minute Dev Talk shared on Twitter, Treyarch’s Brittany Pirello and Matt Scronce discussed the guiding philosophy behind Black Ops 7’s map design. Alongside gameplay footage, the developers explained how maps are built around the classic three-lane structure, while still incorporating spaces that allow players to “catch their breath” between fights.

The pair also confirmed a step back from manual doors, which some fans found disruptive in previous titles. Instead, players can expect a limited use of automatic sliding doors, reminiscent of those featured in Black Ops 2’s Drone map.

First Look at New Environments

The Dev Talk offered a glimpse at several multiplayer arenas:

  • Guild Facility – A tilted, battle-scarred industrial building set along a rugged shoreline.
  • Colorful Train Station – A map packed with vibrant pink walls and bright ad posters, offering a more playful palette.
  • Homestead – A frozen lakeside shack surrounded by snow, illuminated by the green glow of the Aurora Borealis. A wrecked Guild tank wedged between ledges ties it back to the Black Ops universe.
  • Blackheart – A sleek, futuristic map confirmed to appear in Black Ops 7’s upcoming beta.

Not every map shown was officially named, and it remains unclear which ones belong to the smaller “Strike” lineup.
