Updated rating system announced in VALORANT

Riot will present an updated rating system for VALORANT. From now on, players won't have to guess when they'll be promoted as RIot is adapting the League of Legends ranking system using the Rank Rating (RR) system.

The Rank Rating system is very similar to League Points (LP), which measure progress in LoL. This system has been a staple of competitive progression in most video games. Likewise, other Riot Games pigrs such as Teamfight Tactics and Legends of Runeterra also use this system. VALORANT, on the other hand, was the first Riot Games game to bypass the established system.

The rating system at VALORANT was confusing and often inconsistent depending on the scores and individual performance of the players. Often times, players were left unsure when they were promoted or demoted. The confusing mechanics of the rating system often left players frustrated, which is why it required changes. Since the official release of the game in June 2020, the developers have tried to improve the rating system. Each act of the first episode included some changes and additions. However, Riot will now present an updated rating system for VALORANT, redesigned from the ground up.

From now on, the game will present the following scoring structure:

  • The maximum number of points awarded for a victory is 50 RR.
  • The maximum score for a defeat is 30 RR.
  • The maximum number of points awarded for a draw is 20 RR.
  • The minimum number of points awarded for a victory is 10 RR.
  • The minimum score for a defeat is 10 RR.

Each class, be it Iron or Diamond, will still be divided into three subgroups. It is worth saying that from now on the Immortals will be represented by one subgroup. As soon as a player gets 100 RR, he is promoted. Likewise, at 0 RR, the player is demoted. After promotion, each player will receive 10 RR to prevent instant demotion.
