Rumors: The Guard will retain the composition of the VALORANT, despite the possible exit from eSports
According to authoritative insider George Geddes, the North American esports organization The Guard intends to retain its VALORANT roster. Despite the mass layoffs and the desire to say goodbye to the CDL and OWL franchises, the club's management wants to keep the team on the contract.
It is reported that the organization may attempt to sell players in the future, but at the moment The Guard wants to continue supporting the team.
The day before, it was reported that Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, the parent company of The Guard organization, has cut jobs in several departments of its esports division. In addition, rumors followed that the company intends to sell the teams Los Angeles Guerrillas and Los Angeles Gladiators, acting in the CDL and OWL franchises, respectively.
The Guard came to VALORANT at the end of 2021. Last season, the team won the Nerd Street Gamers: Winter Championship - Open 14 and VALORANT Champions Tour 2022: North America Stage 1 Challengers, and also reached the final of the VALORANT Champions Tour 2022: North America Last Chance Qualifier.
However, the club failed to make it into the affiliate program, but The Guard remained true to the scene and continued to develop their division along with a revamped roster. At the same time, the team managed to win the recent Ludwig x Tarik Invitational, as well as receive a direct invitation to the Challengers league.
Currently, the North American team is participating in VALORANT Challengers 2023: North America Split 1. After two rounds, The Guard has two wins over Disguised (2:0) and OREsports (2:0).
