OpTic Gaming risks losing part of the VALORANT roster
According to insider George Geddes, the North American esports organization OpTic Gaming is at risk of losing part of the VALORANT roster. The future of the team is in question, as the key players of the squad have not yet extended their contracts, which end in two months.
The future of NA's top VALORANT team, OpTic Gaming, is in jeopardy as the contracts of two core roster members expire in two months, according to multiple sources familiar with the situation.
The respective Victor and crashies contracts expire during VALORANT Champions 2022, which OpTic Gaming is scheduled to attend in early September. After the championship, the duo will need new contracts to stay in the roster, otherwise the team risks losing both players.
Victor and the crashies have been performing together since September 2020 when they joined Team Envy. In two years, the Americans became the winners of Cloud9 To The Skyes, VCT 2021: North America Stage 1 Challengers 2 and VCT 2022: Stage 1 Masters - Reykjavík, and also got into the top three at First Strike North America, VCT 2021: North America Stage 3 Challengers Playoffs, VCT 2021: Stage 3 Masters - Berlin, VCT 2022: North America Stage 1 Challengers, VCT 2022: North America Stage 2 Challengers and VCT 2022: Stage 2 Masters - Copenhagen.
Other OpTic Gaming players have contracts expiring next year or later. However, the OpTic Gaming roster wants to continue with the same players moving forward next year.
That being said, the organization still needs to qualify for the American Partner League next year if the club plans to continue competing at the highest level. Riot Games will inform the organization before the start of VALORANT Champions 2022, which will affect the renewal of contracts with the roster.
If OpTic Gaming is not selected to play in the American League in 2023, the future of players will be in limbo after the conclusion of VALORANT Champions 2022.
OpTic Gaming's current VALORANT roster is as follows:
- FNS
- Victor
- crashies
- yay
- Marvel
- Chet (head coach)
