Shopify Rebellion Denied 2023 Partnership With VCT

North American esports organization Shopify Rebellion has announced that Riot Games has denied it a partnership with VCT for the 2023 season. Remarkably, the club just a few weeks ago signed the former Luminosity Gaming roster, which showed great promise in the North American scene.

Riot Games has announced that we will not be partnering with VCT for the 2023 season. Over a year ago, we decided to dive into VALORANT, where we thought we could make the most progress by signing with a team that is now considered one of the strongest in the female scene. Since then, we have been actively involved in the development of the discipline, focusing on supporting young talent, and are currently preparing for the VALORANT Champions Tour 2022: North America Last Chance Qualifier.

We are clearly disappointed. The struggle for popularity for a regrettably small number of places in the partner league has always left too many supporters. Moving on, we hope Riot Games finds ways to support the wider ecosystem of too many incredible players and talent who have poured their lives into making VALORANT more successful.

As for our plans, we will continue to support our players and teams in the same way as before. We will share more details about our future in VALORANT later this summer.

Recall that at the end of June, the North American esports organization Shopify Rebellion announced the signing of the former roster of Luminosity Gaming. Even then, the club applied for inclusion in the list as a partner of VCT 2023, but, as it turned out the day before, it did not pass the unspoken criteria of "popularity".

The current lineup of Shopify Rebellion was formed last year. During this time, the North American team became the winner of the NSG: Winter Championship - Open 12, and also took third place in the VCT 2021: North America Stage 3 Challengers 2.

However, at the beginning of the month, the North American club decided to let go of its roster, which has shown good results in recent months. The next championship for the team will be VALORANT Champions Tour 2022: North America Last Chance Qualifier, which will be held in August. The team will have one attempt to qualify for VALORANT Champions 2022.

The announcement from Shopify Rebellion came on the same day that the SoaR organization announced its departure from VAORANT, citing the likely negative impact of the upcoming franchise/partnership model on the TIER-2 scene. Organizations such as Dignitas, Rise, and beastcoast have also pulled out of the game, citing Riot Games policy.

The VALORANT Shopify Rebellion roster is currently as follows:

  • moose
  • dazzLe
  • TiGG
  • Mada
  • bdog
  • mac (coach)
