A Data-Driven Approach to Rankings

Developed in partnership with analytics platform OP.GG, the new ranking system will go beyond simple placements and points. Instead, it will incorporate detailed individual player statistics—including kills, damage dealt, and survival time—directly into team rankings. This change is designed to offer a more nuanced and accurate snapshot of a team's strength by rewarding both collective strategy and standout performances.

Krafton emphasized that this system will be more comprehensive than previous iterations, which primarily relied on cumulative scores and final placements. The revamped format will also take into account regional competitive disparities, ensuring that teams from more active or competitive regions aren’t unfairly penalized in the standings.

Impact on Tournament Invitations

One of the most significant roles of the new PUBG Esports Global Power Rankings will be in shaping the invitation list for the PUBG Esports World Cup, scheduled to take place later this summer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Although details such as the dates, format, and prize pool have yet to be disclosed, the rankings will be a critical factor in determining which teams make the cut.

Launching Ahead of PGS 7 and 8

The timing of the announcement comes just ahead of the first major event in PUBG’s 2025 esports calendar — the PUBG Global Series (PGS) 7, which kicks off April 28 in Shanghai. The event will feature 24 teams, including 10 invited squads from the PUBG Global Partner Team Programme and 14 teams that qualified through regional leagues, all competing for a $300,000 prize pool.

Following a short break, the same teams will reconvene for PGS 8, where they’ll continue to battle for PGS Points. These points will be crucial for securing a spot in the PUBG Global Championship, slated for December 2025.

With this new ranking system, Krafton aims to bring more fairness, transparency, and depth to PUBG Esports — setting the stage for one of the most competitive seasons to date.
