With the launch of Season 15, Overwatch 2 received a major content update, introducing Hero Perks—a system that grants heroes new abilities, breathing fresh life into the game.

However, Hero Perks weren’t the only significant addition. A viral Reddit thread has been gaining traction, praising Blizzard for bringing back several classic Overwatch 1 elements. While some, like the return of loot boxes, are more obvious, players have also highlighted subtle but impactful changes that further enhance the experience.

Overwatch Players Appreciate the Return of Classic UI Elements

In a viral Reddit thread, players have been celebrating the return of nostalgic UI elements in Overwatch 2. Many noted that Blizzard has brought back details that were removed in the sequel, adding to the game's classic feel.

One of the most noticeable changes is the return of the old "Overtime UI", which replaces the modernized font that was initially introduced in Overwatch 2.

“It feels a lot nicer, to be honest,” one player wrote. “Overwatch 2’s version was just bland and boring. If I’m playing a competitive game, I want the whole experience to be exciting.”

Others pointed out that while these tweaks may seem minor, they were a key part of Overwatch’s identity.

“Changing fonts and removing ‘on fire’ might seem insignificant, but those were things that made Overwatch iconic,” another user explained. “When too many of these elements disappear, players notice—and it takes away from the experience.”

Players Push for More Overwatch 1 Features to Return

The Overwatch 2 community is still voicing their desire for more classic features to make a comeback. One of the most requested is endgame cards, which allowed players to recognize standout performances at the end of a match. Fortunately, Blizzard has shown interest in bringing this feature back.

Beyond missing features, players have also pointed out that some of Overwatch 2’s UI elements initially felt rushed, leading to a less polished experience overall.

“The Overwatch 2 UI was really, really rushed,” one player noted. “Over the past six months, more elements have slowly started resembling Overwatch 1 again—things like the main menu font and even the online friends indicator.”

As Overwatch 2 continues to introduce new mechanics and heroes, it’s reassuring to see the developers also revisiting beloved features from the original game. A prime example is loot boxes, which have been reworked and reintroduced in a way that improves upon the system from the first game.

Some argue that these features should never have been removed in the first place, as their return has clearly made the game feel more complete.
