Overwatch 2: Key Dates and Details for Season 14's 6v6 Experiments

6v6 Experiment Schedule and Modes

6v6 Role Queue (December 17 – January 7, 2025)

  • Teams will consist of two players per role (Tank, Damage, Support), locked in before the game starts.
  • The experiment will run for three weeks, giving players a chance to test a structured 6v6 system.

6v6 Min 1 – Max 3 (January 21 – February 4, 2025)

  • Each team must include at least one Tank, Damage, and Support hero.
  • Teams can include up to three players in any single role.
  • Role swapping is allowed mid-match, as long as the role being abandoned still has at least one player.

Future of 6v6 in Overwatch 2

For now, these 6v6 modes are temporary additions. However, Blizzard has confirmed that player feedback and participation will influence whether 6v6 makes a return – or even becomes a permanent option alongside the standard 5v5 format. Fans eager to see 6v6 stick around are encouraged to play as much as possible during the testing periods.

Overwatch: Classic and the "Moth Meta" Return

Season 14 will also see the return of Overwatch: Classic, a special mode that recreates the iconic gameplay of 2017 – including the infamous Mercy "Moth Meta." While no official date has been announced for Overwatch: Classic, it’s expected to launch either between the two 6v6 experiments (January 7–20) or after both tests conclude. With Season 14 ending on February 18, 2025, Blizzard has a limited window to run the nostalgic event.

Final Thoughts

These back-to-back experiments and events mark an exciting opportunity for Overwatch 2 players to explore different gameplay formats and relive classic moments. Whether it’s the structured Role Queue, the flexible Min 1 – Max 3, or the nostalgia of Overwatch: Classic, fans have plenty to look forward to this season.

To make your voice heard, jump into these limited-time modes, and show Blizzard just how much 6v6 means to the community!
