Overwatch 2 Players Discover Hidden Goldfish Easter Egg on Antarctic Peninsula
Overwatch 2 players have uncovered a delightful hidden Easter egg on the Antarctic Peninsula map that seems to nod to a rare skin from the game’s past. This secret feature, tucked away in Blizzard Entertainment's hero shooter, adds a touch of whimsy to an already detailed environment.
While many games feature dedicated fishing mechanics, Overwatch 2 isn’t one of them—at least not officially. However, players have discovered a unique take on "fishing" by using their weapons. For nearly two years, players have been firing into designated fishing holes on the Antarctic Peninsula map, causing fish to leap out of the water. The fish flop briefly on the ice before disappearing, creating a charming, interactive side activity in an otherwise intense shooter.
A Goldfish with a Golden Touch
Recently, some players have made an exciting new discovery while partaking in this unconventional fishing. Reddit user Wojtug shared a clip revealing a rare goldfish with oversized eyes leaping out of one of the fishing holes, releasing a burst of shimmering gold particles into the air. Though Blizzard has made no official mention of this special fish, it adds a new layer of intrigue to the Antarctic Peninsula’s hidden surprises.
A Connection to a Beloved Skin
Fans have pointed out that this goldfish isn’t entirely new—it bears a striking resemblance to the goldfish featured in the Happi Genji skin, which debuted in the Overwatch League during the summer of 2022. This popular skin humanized Genji by trading his usual armor for casual summer attire, including a traditional Japanese festival coat, shorts, and a bright blue accessory: a plastic bag containing a familiar-looking goldfish.
The goldfish in the skin became a standout detail, and its apparent return in Overwatch 2’s fishing Easter egg feels like a playful callback for long-time fans.
No Official Recognition—Just a Fun Easter Egg
Despite the excitement around the discovery, Blizzard has remained silent about the goldfish Easter egg, leaving players to speculate whether it’s purely for fun or part of a hidden reward. For now, there’s no evidence of an achievement or tangible prize for shooting the goldfish from an icy fishing hole.
Instead, it seems to be another example of Blizzard’s knack for adding small, charming details to Overwatch 2, rewarding players who take the time to explore and interact with the game’s environments. Whether it’s a nod to Genji’s beloved skin or simply a whimsical surprise, the goldfish adds a splash of joy to the Antarctic Peninsula.
