Blizzard is ditching loot boxes in Overwatch 2
Yesterday, the developers of Overwatch 2, Blizzard, held an AMA session on Reddit, which resulted in a number of details regarding the transfer of loot boxes and currency, as well as monetization in the sequel to the popular esports discipline.
So the company will completely abandon loot boxes, so players should not try to accumulate them as much as possible in the original game. Chests will be opened automatically, and the received items will be transferred to the player's inventory in Overwatch 2. All types of in-game currencies, namely credits, OWL tokens and competitive points, will be fully saved to game accounts.
Monetization in the new game will take place through various Battle Passes, passing which players will receive cosmetic items. They can also be purchased from the in-game store.
Overwatch 2 is scheduled to release on all major platforms on October 4, 2022. The discipline will be distributed according to the “free-to-play” model. The developers promised to share more details closer to the release of the project.
