Schalke 04 Esports will remain in League of Legends
German football club Schalke 04 have announced their intention to retain their spot in the League of Legends discipline. Thus, the Schalke 04 Esports organization does not plan to leave the professional scene after the sale of the slot in the LEC franchise.
It is reported that Schalke 04 Esports will play in the Prime League Pro Division, Germany's premier league, over the next year. The organization's leadership said that the main goal of the League of Legends team will be to win the coming season. The organization will also continue to develop its FIFA division, which is currently represented by three players.
In addition to the esports direction, Schalke 04 plans to actively implement social projects in Germany that will contribute to the solution of socially significant issues. These include ethno-cultural diversity, accessibility to esports for people with disabilities, and the mental health of professional players.
Recall that at the end of June, Schalke 04 Esports sold a slot in the LEC franchise to the Swiss esports organization Team BDS for $ 31.5 million. With this maneuver, the organization's management tried to solve some of the financial problems that arose due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Comments
To be precise, Schalke 04 had two rosters, like many organizations now. The first roster played in the LEC, and the second, which is called FC Schalke 04 Evolution, has played in the Prime League for a long time. Therefore, now, due to financial problems associated with the departure of the team from the first Bundesliga in football, they sold only their first squad, and the second will still continue to exist, presumably because it does not require such large expenditures.
