League of Legends earned $ 1.75 billion in 2020
SuperData has shared its data on free games revenue for 2020. League of Legends generated $ 1.75 billion in revenue in 2020, according to the report. Of all the free games, Riot Games' title MOBA was the sixth highest grossing game of the year and the only non-mobile title in the top 10.
Note that this is far from the largest income, mutilated by League of Legends in a year. In 2017, the game brought developers $ 2.1 billion. But given the state of the economy during the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the cancellation of many esports championships, the numbers are still surprising.
SuperData reported that the card game Legends of Runeterra, which also takes place in the League of Legends universe, has become an integral part of the series' expanding popularity. SuperData also predicts that VALORANT, which became the ninth highest grossing in 2020, should make a huge jump in earnings in 2021 due to capital increases.
