No LoL 2: Riot Games Reveal Long-Term Plans for League of Legends
Riot Games have officially confirmed that League of Legends 2 is not in development. Instead of releasing a full sequel, the developers are focusing on a major overhaul of the current version of the game.
In a preview of an upcoming Dev Update, the Riot team shared their long-term plans for League of Legends, covering both technical improvements and gameplay changes.
First of all, the developers are working on a completely new game client. It will be fully integrated into the game itself, meaning there will no longer be a separate application required to launch League of Legends.
Riot are also preparing a large-scale visual update for Summoner’s Rift. These changes will go beyond visuals alone, as gameplay adjustments will be made to better fit the updated version of the map.
In addition, the team plans to revise certain runes and elements of the pre-game experience, aiming to make match preparation clearer and more user-friendly.
There will also be a strong focus on new players. Riot are expected to improve the onboarding process, most likely through a fully redesigned tutorial.
More details are promised to be revealed sometime between MSI and Worlds, with all of these updates scheduled to roll out during the 2027 season.
