League of Legends: How the New System Has Made the Game More Complicated for Beginners and Non-Players

One of the most unpleasant innovations of the new season in League of Legends was the significant complication of the gameplay for beginners and players who are not used to donating. Now, to get all the champions, you need to spend much more time and effort.

The old system of obtaining skins and characters has been replaced by a battle pass that contains an in-game currency to unlock content. However, this currency is enough for much less content than before.

With one pass, you can get four champions and 4,750 units of currency. You can complete up to six battle passes per year, which gives you 24 champions and 28,500 currency. Given the average cost of a champion is 3000 units, this adds six more characters, for a total of 30 champions per year. If you take into account the new, more expensive heroes that will be introduced to the game, it could take 7-8 years to fully unlock all the characters.

For comparison, under the old champion capsule system, almost the entire roster could be unlocked in a year.

Some may argue that most players use only a few favourite characters anyway, and that the new system is easier to understand. In fact, it has been significantly cut, forcing players to donate more often and making it much harder for newcomers to enter the game.
