Major Updates in LoL Ranked: Reach Diamond III and More in 2024's Split 2 Changes!
Riot Games has announced significant updates to the Ranked play in League of Legends for the second split of 2024, beginning with patch 14.10. In a notable shift, players can now achieve as high as Diamond III rank directly after their provisional matches, a step up from the previous cap at Emerald I. This adjustment aligns with a series of changes aimed at enhancing the competitive integrity and dynamics of Ranked play.
The update, detailed on Riot's official website, also includes the removal of demotion protection between divisions. This means players will move between ranks more fluidly, with demotion placing a player at 25, 50, or 75 League Points (LP) based on their Matchmaking Rating (MMR) at the time of the rank change. Furthermore, the Master Duo option will be available in most regions, pausing only when players reach Grandmaster tier.
Another significant improvement addressed by Riot is the reduction of negative LP gains, which have decreased by approximately 37%. The incidence of players experiencing negative LP gains has dropped significantly, from nearly half of all players to around 3%, and is virtually nonexistent in most skill brackets.
Additionally, the patch 14.10 scheduled for release on May 15, will include extensive adjustments to items and runes as well as a rework of the champion Corki. Riot has deferred the implementation of carrying the same LP upon promotion to the following patch, 14.11, as explained by Riot Games designer Phroxzon. These updates underscore Riot's commitment to refining player experience and maintaining the competitiveness of the League of Legends Ranked system.
