How to Get Free Gems in Clash of Clans

Gems are the most valuable currency in Clash of Clans. You spend them to speed up upgrades, buy resources, unlock extra builders and change your name. Most players get gems by paying real money, but the game also gives you a few ways to earn them for free. Below we cover how to get free gems in Clash of Clans and what you should stay away from.

Complete Achievements

Achievements give you more free gems than anything else in the game. Each one has several tiers, and Supercell pays out gems for every tier you finish. You earn them for winning attacks, defending your base, upgrading your Town Hall, donating troops to clanmates and collecting stars in clan wars. To see the full list, open your profile and go to the Achievements tab. Each entry shows how close you are to the next tier and how many gems it pays.

The rewards vary a lot. Easy achievements give you 2 to 5 gems, while others pay 1,000 to 2,000. Those big ones are long grinds, like collecting 1,000 stars in Clan Wars, and can take months of play. Use Codes and Reward Links

Every now and then Supercell releases special codes that give you free gems and other rewards: Magic Items, chests, resources or village decorations. They usually show up during big updates, holiday events, esports tournaments and collabs.

Codes come in a few forms. Some are QR codes: you scan them with the camera of the phone where the game is installed, and the reward appears in Clash of Clans. Others are links you open on that same device. You can also type some codes in manually on the Supercell Store after logging in with Supercell ID.

Repair the Gem Mine in the Builder Base

The Builder Base has a Gem Mine. It starts out broken, and you need to spend resources to repair it. After that it produces a small amount of gems every day, and you just have to collect them. Upgrading the mine raises both its production rate and its storage. If you skip the Builder Base for too long, the mine fills up and stops producing, so collect your gems at least once every few days.

Clear Obstacles in Your Village

Trees, bushes, rocks and mushrooms keep popping up around your village. When you remove them, the game often drops a few gems. Sometimes a Gem Box spawns on the map, and that one pays more.

Clearing obstacles also counts toward the Nice and Tidy achievement, so you get paid twice. If a builder has nothing to do, send them to chop down a couple of trees.

Complete Season Challenges

Each month Clash of Clans starts a new season with daily and weekly challenges. You earn points for them, and those points unlock rewards on the season track, including gems and Magic Items. Sell Extra Magic Items

Selling spare Magic Items is another way to pick up some gems. If you already hold the maximum number of a certain book, potion or hammer and the game hands you another, you can sell the extra one for gems. Open your Town Hall, go to the Magic Items section and tap Sell on the item you don’t need. Books of Heroes and Hammers sell for the most.

Join Events and Clan Games

Supercell runs limited-time events all the time, such as Hammer Jam, holiday events and pre-update challenges. Their rewards often include gems or Magic Items you can sell. Clan Games happen every month, and your clan unlocks reward tiers with the points you collect together. You’ll find useful items there too.

Check the Supercell Store

The official Supercell Store gives out gems as well. Log in with Supercell ID and keep an eye on promotions and events. Supercell doesn’t follow a fixed schedule or a set amount, but depending on the season you can get around 100 free gems a month.

Why You Shouldn’t Use Gem Generators

Social media and shady websites love to advertise gem generators that promise to add thousands of gems to your Clash of Clans account. They don’t work. Most of them are scams built to steal your login and password. Your gems live on Supercell’s servers, and no outside service can add any to your account, so these sites usually just take your account.

Modded clients and private servers with unlimited gems don’t help either. Your progress there never carries over to your real account, and Supercell bans accounts for good if you try to connect them to the main game.
