How to Practice Heroes in Mobile Legends

Mobile Legends is a pretty challenging game for beginners. Many players spend quite a while working out which hero suits their playstyle and then spend more time leveling that hero up. As a result, many newcomers struggle, especially in 'Ranked' matches.

To start practicing heroes the right way, beginners should first get to know them: their skills, builds, and emblems, and where you pick the right gear. It’s also worth checking Pro Builds, a section where pros and experienced players share their own builds. Guides on YouTube and Reddit can help too.

Once you know the heroes, and there are plenty of them, check out Practice Mode in Mobile Legends, the best place to test a hero’s abilities and improve your own skills. It has “No Cooldown,” which turns off cooldowns, and gold and level boosts so you can test a hero at different stages of the game, and a “Damage Bot” for testing your damage and practicing the accuracy of your ultimate. Next, Mobile Legends has a “Vs AI” mode where you can test your skills. Here you can learn more about laning, the early stage of the game when players are assigned to specific lanes on the map to gather resources. The AI in this mode plays at the level of real mid-tier players.

If you feel skilled enough, try Classic mode, where you face real players. Keep in mind that experienced players also play it, so you may end up against one of them. Be ready for teammates who act “toxic,” to put it mildly, but you can always turn off the chat.

A few tips for beginners in Mobile Legends and even somewhat experienced players: start by mastering the easier heroes, such as Zilong or Layla. Zilong is a melee fighter who is great at destroying towers, and his ultimate gives him huge movement speed and immunity to slow effects. Layla is a great choice if you prefer long-range combat. She is easy to play because you don’t have to press many buttons, and she gives you an early advantage in distance from your opponents.

Getting back to Ranked mode in Mobile Legends, it really is the hardest mode in the game. Players use their strongest heroes here, and while a loss in Classic costs you only a couple of minutes, a loss in Ranked costs you and your teammates stars. In other words, defeat has a price. To play Ranked, you also need at least 20 to 30 Classic matches and a win rate above 50%, so in the early stages there is little for you to do there. One more tip: since Mobile Legends is an online game, it is better to play with a friend or a few friends. Staying in touch helps you coordinate and understand what to do, where, and how.
