Crystal Dynamics Is Considering Making More Tomb Raider Remakes After Legacy of Atlantis

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis—a remake of the original 1996 game—is currently one of the most anticipated releases planned for 2027. At the same time, the developers have hinted that they are exploring the possibility of making other remakes in the series, as revealed in an interview.

As reported by Gameblog, during a discussion at an event celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary, which took place in England, Arek Tomaszewski, art director of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, spoke about the compromises that arise during the development process, and he made the following statement:

“I think that by the time we do Tomb Raider 3, we will have to do it.”

Perhaps these weren't just empty words but actual hints from the developers that they would be working on other Tomb Raider remakes following the Legacy of Atlantis release. The report also cited remarks made by Raul Siqueira, the head of development, at Gamescom 2026, where he stated that he would like to make a remake of Tomb Raider 2.

Remakes of Tomb Raider 2 and 3 may be under consideration, according to a report by gaming outlet Gameblog. Comments from Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis developers have prompted speculation, but neither project has been officially announced.

There have been previous reports about the possibility that Tomb Raider 2 and Tomb Raider 3 might be getting remakes, but this will likely depend on the success of Legacy of Atlantis—primarily its financial performance. In addition to being a remake, the developers have stated that the game is also a reimagining of the franchise, depicting Lara Croft in her prime and following the events of the Survivor Trilogy (Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider).

Don't forget that Tomb Raider: Catalyst—a new installment in the franchise set after Tomb Raider: Underworld—is also in development. New details have recently surfaced. Specifically, the game is reported to feature a full-fledged open world, dynamic weather changes, side quests, world-based activities, and more. The release is reportedly scheduled for 2028.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will release on February 12, 2027, for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
