New Rumors and Details About Future Tomb Raider Titles - Legacy of Atlantis and Catalyst

Crystal Dynamics is currently working on two new Tomb Raider games: Legacy of Atlantis and Catalyst. Legacy of Atlantis is both a remake of the original 1996 game and a reimagining of it, while Catalyst is a sequel to 2008's Tomb Raider: Underworld and the next main entry in the series.

New rumors and details regarding both projects have emerged. According to reports from MP1st, it will take approximately 14–16 hours to complete Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which is roughly the same as the original game. However, according to Jeff Adams, experience director at Crystal Dynamics, who spoke with MP1st, the playtime will depend on your playstyle, and the developers are also working to create a world that players will want to explore. In another report by the media, Jeff Adams also confirmed that in Legacy of Atlantis, players will be able to disable the progression and crafting systems to replicate the experience of the original game—or choose not to, if they prefer the newer games included in the Survival era.

Speaking of Tomb Raider: Catalyst, franchise insider universocroft shared some details about the upcoming title. He cited employee portfolios that confirm the game will feature a full-fledged open world—the largest in the franchise’s history—and that the action will take place in India. Players can expect dynamic weather changes, a day-and-night cycle, new travel tools, side quests, in-world activities, dialogue choices, collectibles, and more. An insider also recently reported that Tomb Raider: Catalyst will feature more than 20 additional tombs to explore.

NEW CLUES ABOUT TOMB RAIDER: CATALYST!

Portfolios from specialists who worked at Crystal Dynamics reveal details that may shed light on exploration in Tomb Raider: Catalyst.

A former engineer, who worked at the studio from 2020 to 2025, describes dynamic weather systems, a day-night cycle, rain and snow effects, as well as navigation and traversal tools. While their profile does not explicitly confirm that these technologies were developed specifically for Catalyst, it notes they were created for the "future of Tomb Raider."

Meanwhile, a narrative designer who was with the studio between October 2022 and November 2025 explicitly mentions the game, noting that they worked on side quests, world-based activities, dialogue, and collectibles.

Taken together, this information suggests an exploration-focused experience featuring optional activities scattered throughout the environment—characteristics typically associated with open-world games.
