Rockstar Wanted Daft Punk to Record a Soundtrack for GTA 6 - But They Seemingly Turned Down the Proposal

The soundtrack has always been a crucial part of every GTA game, and it will surely be a major feature of the sixth one. Rockstar Games has already shared some of the tracks that will be in the game, and recent reports suggest the developers wanted to bring in a legendary electronic duo, but it seems that didn’t happen.

According to music insider Has it Leaked, Rockstar wanted Daft Punk to reunite for the GTA 6 soundtrack. The insider claims the studio offered what was described as an essentially unlimited budget but ended up choosing Justice, who was second on its list. A Daft Punk reunion would have been a blockbuster event and boosted interest in GTA 6 even more, but fans were very happy with “Flower in a Hurricane,” the song from the game’s new trailer.

Daft Punk had the chance to work on GTA 6, but turned Rockstar down despite reportedly being offered an “unlimited” budget.

The claim comes from a report citing French music journalist Romain Figueira, who says Rockstar wanted Daft Punk to make a major contribution to the game’s music. The duo reportedly declined the offer, with the reason apparently being that they weren’t interested in returning as Daft Punk.

Daft Punk officially disbanded in 2021 and released a video called “Epilogue” on their YouTube channel. Still, the group is involved in GTA 6 in a way: one of its members, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, helped produce the soundtrack, including collaborations with other artists.

The game is less than a month away, and fans are still going through every detail of the new trailer released last week. According to Digital Foundry, GTA 6 looks very polished in the trailer, and the final version may look even better.
