11 bit studios Might Be Working on Unusual Spin-off to Frostpunk - First Details Revealed

As we know, 11 bit studios—the developers behind This War of Mine, Frostpunk, and The Alters—are currently working on several projects at once, including both titles in the series mentioned above and entirely new IPs. Details about the majority of these remain unknown, but users have concluded that one of them might be an unusual spin-off of one of the studio’s most famous titles.

Information on this subject has been circulating on Reddit and is based primarily on job postings recently published on the 11 bit studios website. Most likely, the developers are working on a spin-off to Frostpunk—a city-building simulator with survival elements—but this will be a completely different project: it will feature an open world, a first-person perspective, and even multiplayer. At the same time, however, some doubt that this game is related to Frostpunk, and it’s quite possible that it’s also a spin-off of The Alters or an entirely new project.

11 Bit Studios is hiring a Level Designer for an unannounced project, who is expected to work on large-scale open-world locations. The designer will also oversee development of both outdoor and indoor spaces, including shelters, abandoned locations, and cave systems.

The game will also allegedly feature 'natural environments' based on different biomes, indicating that we have a full-fledged open-world experience on our hands. The ad also highlights a focus on survival and combat, with verticality and environmental challenges.

Meanwhile, the job listing for Expert Gameplay Programmer also mentions the developer should have professional experience in building multiplayer and co-op games. Therefore, it's fair to assume this Frostpunk spinoff will have a co-op or full-fledged multiplayer mode.

As for the games that have already been confirmed, 11 bit studios revealed its plans this April. The developers are officially working on a Frostpunk reimagining for Unreal Engine 5 titled Frostpunk: 1886, a new IP inspired by This War of Mine, another Frostpunk project but in a different genre, as well as a new IP from The Alters’ developers and a reimagining of This War of Mine for Unreal Engine 5. It’s possible that the aforementioned details, sourced from Reddit, ultimately pertain to one of these new projects. Additionally, 11 bit studios will serve as the publisher for games such as Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault and Crop.
