Cyberpunk 2077 Gets Another “Not the Last” Update With Patch 2.5

CD Projekt RED has announced a new update for Cyberpunk 2077. It’s called the Edgerunners 2 Update, or Update 2.5, and it arrives on October 22 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The Nintendo Switch 2 version will follow a little later. The update is free, and its announcement was timed to the premiere of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 anime, which hit Netflix on October 20.

Like the first season, the new anime was created by CD Projekt RED together with Studio Trigger. All 10 episodes came out at once. It’s a standalone story about a new crew of mercenaries in Night City and doesn’t continue the plot of the first season.

There’s no full list of changes yet. We only know that the update will add new items and features, along with content inspired by Edgerunners 2. The new features mentioned so far include cyberware customization and a new dual-wielding playstyle with two pistols at once. The update’s official artwork shows V standing back to back with Weak Kingsley, a character from the new anime. CD Projekt RED will share more details during REDstreams on October 21 and publish the full patch notes right after the broadcast.

It’s quite possible that items from the anime will make their way into the game again, just like after the first season. Back in September 2022, the game received Update 1.6, which was also called the Edgerunners Update. It added Easter eggs from the show to Night City, including protagonist David Martinez’s iconic yellow jacket, which you can get through the Over the Edge quest, and Guts, the shotgun Rebecca never parted with. The update also added a wardrobe system for changing your appearance, new weapons, and new Photo Mode options.

Interestingly, CD Projekt RED has said several times that it was done supporting Cyberpunk 2077, yet the updates kept coming. After the big 2.0 update and the Phantom Liberty expansion in September 2023, the studio said there would be no more major updates. Then version 2.1 came out in December 2023 and was billed as the “last big update,” followed by 2.2 a year later.

In June 2025, the studio announced 2.3, and community manager Alicja Kozera jokingly admitted that the last update hadn’t been the last one. Even after 2.3 launched in July 2025, the developers wouldn’t say it was the final one, and the upcoming patch 2.5 has proven that once again.

A full-length live-action film set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe is also in the works, with Paramount Pictures handling the adaptation.
