Cyberpunk 2077 Movie Is In Development by Paramount Pictures

There's one more film adaptation in the works, and this time it's based on one of the best open-world action RPGs of the past few years, developed by a European studio.

Deadline has shared an exclusive report stating that Paramount Pictures has greenlit a full-length film based on CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077. The Polish studio is also set to assist with production, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura—who previously worked on the Transformers and G.I. Joe films—serving as one of the producers.

A “Cyberpunk 2077” movie is in the works at Paramount.

“Transformers” producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is attached to the project.

This isn't the first adaptation of a 2020 title—Netflix previously released the animated series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which is set in the game's universe. The second season will also premiere on October 20.

Given that Hollywood star Keanu Reeves plays one of the main roles in Cyberpunk 2077—Johnny Silverhand—he simply has to reprise the character in the upcoming movie. Furthermore, it’s worth noting that Idris Elba played a character named Solomon Reed in The Phantom Liberty expansion, making his appearance highly likely as well. The only question is whether the movie will adapt the events of the DLC or not.

As for the Cyberpunk games, CD Projekt RED is actively working on a sequel, but the release date is still a long way off and currently unknown. Early last month, the studio confirmed Cyberpunk 2077 has sold 40 million copies and The Phantom Liberty has sold 15 million copies, cementing the franchise as a key component of the company’s future success. The upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 live-action adaptation does not yet have a release date, a confirmed director, or a cast.
