Jason Schreier Revealed Development Details of GTA 6 and Red Dead Redemption 2
GTA 6 is less than a month away, and Rockstar Games released a new trailer last week to mark the launch, so it looks like no more new footage will come before release. However, new details about the game keep emerging.
Over the past week, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has published two major articles, mostly about GTA 6’s development. They were so extensive that he couldn’t cover everything. Fortunately, he shared more in a new video on his YouTube channel, where he also talked about the game’s links to Red Dead Redemption 2 and which elements from the 2018 western we can expect in Rockstar’s new game. You can check out more details below:
- The developers spent many months, maybe even years, building the weapon selection system for GTA 6. In the end, they went back to the circular menu and limited weapon choices from Red Dead Redemption 2.
- Some developers have worked on GTA 6 since 2015 and even skipped RDR 2 to start on the sixth game. Most of them are map designers.
- Rockstar nearly dropped the greeting and threat system from Red Dead Redemption 2. It was kept and is even more realistic in GTA 6.
- The art production team has grown a lot. About 5 to 6 people worked on GTA 5 in this area, while up to 65 now work on GTA 6.
- According to Aaron Garbut, co-studio head at Rockstar North, the game is so massive that not all developers know how many details it contains.
- Red Dead Redemption 2 even shows how horses’ genitals react to the weather, which says a lot about how much Rockstar values creative freedom. Expect even more micro-details like this in GTA 6.
We’ve already heard that many elements from Red Dead Redemption 2, including the honor system and NPC interactions, will carry over to GTA 6, and as usual with Rockstar, they will be even more expansive. With release approaching, fans are looking back at Rockstar’s earlier games more and more. If you’d like to play the studio’s latest release, you can buy Red Dead Redemption 2 on Eneba, and be sure to check out the entire section dedicated to GTA 6. Jason Schreier also recently refuted the claim that GTA 6 would be a “game with a modern agenda” — according to him, it’s still the same absurd Rockstar game, with its typical humor and hilarious scenes. Grand Theft Auto VI launches in one month, on November 19, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Rockstar hasn’t announced a PC version yet, but a recent report claims the game will come to the platform in the first quarter of 2027.
