Star Wars Battlefront 3 Reportedly in the Work - Possible Developers Mentioned
It looks like another Star Wars game might be in the works—and this time, it’s not a brand-new project but a sequel to one of the franchise’s most famous subgenres.
According to insider Jeff Grubb, Disney has reportedly given the green light to the development of a new, third installment of Star Wars Battlefront—he made this statement during a recent episode of the Giant Bomb podcast. Furthermore, DICE, which previously released the first two installments in 2015 and 2017, respectively, is reportedly being considered as the developer, as is Bungie, the developers of Destiny. Disney, however, has not yet confirmed these rumors.
Jeff Grubb says Disney is in talks with Bungie and DICE about a possible new Star Wars Battlefront game.
The talks are reportedly about finding a studio to develop Battlefront 3.
DICE has already worked on the previous Battlefront games, while Bungie has experience making large-scale first-person shooters.
Interestingly, this statement came shortly after Lucasfilm Games Vice President Douglas Reilley suggested there could be even more Star Wars games down the road —and that they wouldn’t necessarily be developed by well-known, major studios. He made this remark in a recent interview, prompted by the staggering success of the recently released titles—Star Wars: Zero Company by Bit Reactor and Star Wars: Galactic Racer by Fuse Games.
It’s also worth remembering that next year marks the 50th anniversary of the Star Wars franchise, as the first film, A New Hope, was released in 1977. So, we’ll likely see quite a few more announcements—not only related to movies and TV shows, but also to video games.
