Amazon Is Reportedly Looking to Wrap Both Seasons of God of War Simultaneously

Amazon is known to be developing a TV series adaptation based on God of War (2018) and its sequel, God of War: Ragnarok. However, production this summer ran into unforeseen circumstances—namely, a serious injury sustained by Ryan Hurst, the actor playing Kratos. And now, it appears the studio is preparing to minimize financial losses even further.

The latest report comes from well-known insider Daniel Richtman, who claimed that Amazon plans to film the God of War adaptation simultaneously in order to be prepared for any unforeseen circumstances. He also confirmed that Hurst won’t be the only actor to be replaced—just like Kratos, another actor will be cast as Atreus in the second God of War season, suggesting a time jump, similar to the games from Santa Monica Studio.

The live-action ‘GOD OF WAR’ series will reportedly film Seasons 1 and 2 back-to-back.

Atreus, played by Callum Vinson, will be recast for the second season.

Previously, it was reported that Dave Bautista would replace Ryan Hurst as Kratos in the series; earlier last month, the 57-year-old actor showed how he is preparing for the role of the iconic hero and added he would be fully ready by early November. When Amazon will resume the filming of God of War TV series has not yet been announced. Meanwhile, Olivier Richters, star of the recent Street Fighter adaptation, revealed that he had auditioned for Kratos and stated that he would like to play Tyr in the series. Given that the actor stands over 6'10", that role does indeed seem like a better fit for him.

As for the God of War games, Santa Monica Studio will release a game focused on Faye—God of War: Laufey—in 2027. It is expected to further expand the universe’s lore. The game recently received a collector’s edition, though it has faced some criticism from the gaming community. Additionally, the developers are working on a new game centered around Kratos and God of War Trilogy Remake, which was announced at State of Play in February.
