Reddit user LTSharpe, who has no professional software development experience, has built a mod that improves Oblivion Remastered’s performance by 40%. He made it with the help of Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5 AI model, and the mod cuts stuttering significantly while keeping the graphics quality intact.

Oblivion Remastered has had performance problems on PC ever since launch. The game is CPU-bound, so frame rates are unstable and stutters show up as you move around the world. LTSharpe ran into this on his Ryzen 7 5800X system, and even upgrading from a GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER to a Radeon RX 9070 XT didn’t help. So he decided to tackle the problem with Claude, and over two and a half weeks he built Oblivion Remastered Performance Fix, a mod with about 40 engine-level optimizations.

If your FPS is fine but your ping isn’t, try IceVPN. The service can noticeably lower your ping in any competitive game. In How To Fix High Ping in CS2, for example, we cut it almost threefold, from 56 to 19 ms.

Most of Oblivion Remastered’s problems come down to inefficient CPU usage. The game rebuilt its sun and moon lighting every frame, even when nothing in the scene had changed. It also kept allocating memory it didn’t need, prepared DirectX 12 commands mostly on a single thread, and ran heavy world-streaming operations that could stall entire frames. The mod spreads the workload across threads and frames and handles memory more efficiently, all without hurting graphics quality.

In an Imperial City test at 4K with FSR Performance and Frame Generation, average FPS went up from 72 to 102, a 41% increase. The 1% lows rose from 33 to 45 FPS, and hitches longer than 50 ms dropped from 19.5 to 4.8 per run. In Cheydinhal, FPS climbed from 64 to 91 (+43%). Without Frame Generation, 1% lows improved from 26 to 43 FPS. The mod also reduces loading stutters, speeds up menus, and fixes several crashes.
