Sony Got Criticized for God of War Laufey Collector’s Edition

This week, Sony and Santa Monica Studios unveiled the collector's edition of God of War: Laufey —one of the PlayStation 5's biggest exclusives coming next year. However, not all fans are thrilled with its included content and price.

The cost of the God of War Laufey Collector's Edition is $170, and it includes a light-up statue of Faye, a deck of 51 Oracle cards, and a mini art book with illustrations. The community’s main complaint was the absence of a copy of the game, similar to the criticism Rockstar received for the GTA 6 Collector’s Edition, which also does not include the game, and its price is much higher. Fans believe such decisions do not show collector’s editions in the best light and diminish their appeal.

This is a f*cking joke. The God of War Collector’s Box costs €150 and doesn’t even include the game disc.

At that price, the least they could do is include the actual game. This is becoming a trend, selling you the game separately, almost like charging extra for DLC.

Remember when collector’s editions actually included everything? Greedy companies are ruining what made these editions special.

Despite the absence of the game itself in the Collector's Edition and criticism from players about the concept, God of War Laufey was at the top of the global PS5 pre-order charts earlier this month, according to PS Store DB. However, the game has since slipped slightly in the rankings.

The events of God of War: Laufey unfold in parallel with God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarok in a place called Everywhen—the transcendent afterlife realm of the gods. The new project is expected to significantly expand the universe’s lore and lay the groundwork for the next installment, in which Kratos— as previously confirmed by the developers —will be the lead character. Rumor has it that the new game may be set in Egypt.

God of War Laufey launches on February 16, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
