God of War: Laufey Is Seeing Strong Pre-Orders Despite Criticism—The Game Is Topping Sales Charts Worldwide
Earlier this week, Santa Monica Studio officially opened pre-orders for its next project, God of War Laufey, and detailed the game's Deluxe Edition. Despite some skeptical reactions and early criticism, preliminary sales data suggests the game is performing well so far.
According to PS Store DB data, God of War Laufey currently ranks second in sales across all major regions, North America, Latin America, Europe, East Asia, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East/Africa alike. It also sits second on the Most Anticipated pre-order chart and lands in the top 10 today across 47 of 55 regional stores, as you can check out below:

Much of the fan pushback centers on the shift away from Kratos as the lead character, with some arguing the franchise is drifting from its core identity. That even forced Vincent D'Onofrio publicly voiced support for Deborah Ann Woll, his former Marvel/Netflix co-star, who provides the voice and likeness for Faye, the game's protagonist.
Even with the criticism, God of War Laufey remains one of 2027's most anticipated games, and the pre-order numbers back that up. Kratos not being the lead doesn't mean he's absent, either; one recent screenshot shows him alongside Faye in an ancient Greek setting, fueling speculation that Faye might experience visions similar to the ones Kratos had in God of War: Ragnarok. Meanwhile, there is a speculation Tur, another important character from Ragnarok, might appear in the God of War Laufey as well, as was previously teased by the voice actor.
God of War Laufey will release on February 16, 2027, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
