New Silent Hill Film Adaptation Is In Development, with Roy Lee Serving as One of the Producers

The Resident Evil adaptation released last month, directed by Zach Cregger, seems to have paved the way for a film based on another famous horror franchise: Silent Hill. We have also learned that the producer behind the Raccoon City movie is involved in this new project.

The first rumor came from Dread Central, which reported that Silent Hill is set for a big-screen reboot, just like Resident Evil. The report shared the plan is to take the series in a new direction, focusing on psychological horror, grotesque creatures, and the surreal breakdown of reality.

Since then, there has been a big update. A change to producer Roy Lee’s profile on The Wall Street Journal shows he will be involved in the new Silent Hill adaptation. Lee has produced a huge number of horror films, including The Ring and Doctor Sleep, and he also worked with Zach Cregger on Weapons and Barbarian, as well as on Resident Evil.

Like the Resident Evil movies, Silent Hill has been adapted for the big screen more than once. The highest IMDb rating is 6.5 for the first film, and the lowest is 4.0 for last year’s Return to Silent Hill. It will be interesting to see which direction the franchise takes now, and it would be ironic if Zach Cregger directed it, since he made the highest-rated and most profitable Resident Evil movie ever.

Speaking of Cregger’s latest film, its box office has recently passed $250 million and is expected to end up between $320 and $340 million. The director has hinted he might direct another movie based on Resident Evil. Moreover, he previously claimed Christina Hendricks should play Lady Dimitrescu on the big screen, so fans wouldn’t mind seeing his take on Resident Evil Village.

As for Silent Hill games, last month Screen Burn released Silent Hill: Townfall—the new spin-off in the franchise. The game has received generally positive reviews from critics and players—its Metacritic score currently stands at 80. It’s now available on PC and PlayStation 5.
