Zach Cregger Teased He’d Make Another Resident Evil Adaptation

2026 has been a genuinely great year for Resident Evil and its fans alike. Not only did Requiem, the ninth mainline game, become the franchise's best-selling release ever, and Capcom confirm Resident Evil Veronica, the new remake, for next year, but last month also brought a new film adaptation from Zach Cregger that turned out to be, to put it mildly, a massive hit.

Zach Cregger has repeatedly stated that his adaptation isn't meant to retell any specific game but rather capture the franchise's atmosphere. In a recent interview with ComicBook, though, he teased at the possibility of a follow-up film, even though his original plan was to keep this a standalone project rather than build out a full franchise. You can check out his fuller comments below.

“This movie was designed to be a one-off, so that itch was scratched, yes. But I can’t help myself. Like there are always ideas percolating, and I already have some thoughts of like what could happen… going forward. So who knows, dude; anything can happen.”

That's an intriguing admission, especially given an earlier interview where he mentioned Christina Hendricks as his pick to play Lady Dimitrescu on the big screen - perhaps Cregger’s next project will be an adaptation of Resident Evil Village. It's also worth noting Inde Navarrette, star of Obsession, has previously claimed she'd love to be part of a Resident Evil film, and given the physical resemblance, she could theoretically be in the running for Mia Winters if Cregger goes that route.

As for the current film's box office run, it's crossed $245 million so far, with projections suggesting it could finish somewhere between $320 and $340 million total. Against a $75 million budget, Sony has every reason to be happy with how it's performed.
