CD Projekt RED Revealed Why They Decided to Make Another DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Next year, CD Projekt RED will release a new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (now The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered) called Songs of the Past. It takes Geralt to a brand-new region, Letten, with the story centered on his friendship with Dandelion. Even though Blood and Wine felt like the perfect sendoff for the witcher's story, the developers apparently still had more to say.

That's according to Karolina Kuzia-Rokosz, creative vision director at Fool's Theory, and Paweł Sasko, associate game director at CD Projekt RED, who discussed the DLC in a new VGC interview. Kuzia-Rokosz stated the team wanted to show familiar characters from a new angle, particularly the people who matter most to Geralt. You can check out her fuller comments below.

“Songs of the Past is a great opportunity to tell something new about already established characters and to show them from a different angle. What I mean is, this is still a fully-fledged expansion and a richer story first and foremost, but then we have Geralt’s best friend with us, who also faces some important stuff in his life, right?

We always wanted to say more about the people who are important to Geralt. So, it isn’t like we wanted to strongly conclude something, more that we still believe that there is still more to say about Geralt.”

Sasko added that the original game never fully explored the shared story between Geralt and Dandelion, something Songs of the Past is meant to address. In the same interview, the developers also revealed certain parts of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, released this week, d rew inspiration from the Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 update, particularly combat improvements and the reworked skill tree.

It's already been confirmed Dandelion plays a central role in Songs of the Past, given the expansion unfolds in his home region. As for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered itself, it briefly held the title of 2026's highest-rated game on Metacritic at 94, tying with Sektori, before dropping a point and settling into second place. Even so, it's still scoring higher than the original 2015 release, which sat at 92.
