Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe—New Info About Game’s Characters Revealed

Next year, Ubisoft plans to release Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe, first announced back in 2022. What's known so far is that it's the next mainline entry in the series, set in 16th-century Germany, with magical elements removed entirely in favor of a more grounded, realistic tone.

The studio hasn't been quick to share details, partly because development reportedly hasn't been smooth. In the meantime, MP1st has published an exclusive report with a wealth of new information on Codename Hexe, mostly covering the characters but also touching on the open world, story, and modern-day setting. The report notes the info reflects the game's state sometime between 2023 and now and that the character names involved are likely codenames rather than final ones. Here's what MP1st's report has revealed:

  • Petra — the protagonist, a strong young woman around 25. She's portrayed as an obedient daughter on the surface, but holds views that directly clash with what society expects of her.
  • Brigitte — Petra's presumed mother, a midwife in her early forties. She's expected to play a meaningful role in the story, especially given earlier rumors that the protagonist, Anika, might be the heir to Claudia Auditore, Ezio's sister.
  • Konrad — Petra's presumed father, a religious, caring family man who handles the family's dirty work.
  • Bruno — an authoritative, charismatic leader with a rough sense of humor.
  • Anton — calculating and ambitious, operating mostly from the shadows.
  • Wolfgang — a mentor figure to the protagonist.
  • Johanna — wealthy, unprincipled, and manipulative.
  • Theo — shy and sensitive, acting a bit like a chatty younger brother.
  • Erika — attractive and sharp-witted, but arrogant and quick to flaunt her status.
  • Anna — a character from the modern-day storyline, a determined, impatient careerist pushing herself to the limit.
  • Mother Gertrud—a 65-year-old former village healer who lost the community's trust after failing to cure an illness. She also taught Brigitte, Petra's mother, how to use medicinal herbs and is now helping hide her daughter from an organization called the Order of the Lamb.
  • Augsburg will be one of the cities featured in Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe.

Since some of this is based on a 2023 build, it's possible Ubisoft has already shifted things around since then. Either way, release still looks a while off: according to insider NateTheHate, the studio is taking a deliberate approach, with Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe unlikely to launch before the second half of 2027 and possibly later than that.

Separately, a recent Ubisoft job listing has confirmed Codename Hexe, like Assassin's Creed Shadows before it, will also come to Nintendo Switch 2. Whether that version launches alongside PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 or comes later remains unclear, but either way, it's good news for console owners.
