The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered Was Little Inspired by Cyberpunk 2.0. Update
This week, CD Projekt RED released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, an enhanced version of the timeless classic that is already proving to be a huge success. As it turns out, some of its new features were inspired by another game from the Polish studio.
In a recent interview with VGC, Paweł Sasko, Associate Game Director at CD PROJEKT RED, revealed that some of the new features in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt—Remastered, such as the revamped combat system and updated skill tree, were inspired by Update 2.0 for Cyberpunk 2077, a massive patch that was released nearly a year after the game’s launch, transforming it beyond recognition. According to Sasko, the studio gathered feedback, listening to players’ suggestions on how to improve The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for the remaster’s release. You can check out more detailed comments from the developer below:
“There is also a revamped skill tree, and here we used a lot of the experience from the Cyberpunk 2.0 version because I was deeply involved in the redesign of that. So, we did a little of that, the same sort of process and thought process, thinking about what kind of builds would be actually satisfactory to use, and would actually work not only in the base game and expansions, but also in Songs of the Past.
We learned a lot on Cyberpunk 2077, working with NVIDIA, with Intel, with AMD on the upscalers. Things that we introduced for the first time, which were basically premiered in Cyberpunk at that time, we are now bringing to Remaster because we know how it works. We did it for Red Engine 4. Now we are bringing it to Red Engine 3, which is the engine that The Witcher 3 is using, so the visual part, and yeah, there are numerous updates.”
Speaking of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered’s success, for a while the game was the highest-rated title of 2026 on Metacritic (94), tying for first place with Sektori. However, the score has now dropped by 1 point, pushing the game into second place. But at the same time, it remains even more critically acclaimed than the original (92), which was released in 2015.
Next year, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered will delight players with a new DLC titled Songs of the Past, which was mentioned above. And in 2028, CD Projekt RED, as revealed this summer, plans to release The Witcher 4—a new chapter in the saga featuring Ciri as the main heroine.
