Dandelion Will Have Lots of Attention in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s New DLC, Songs of the Past

Next year, CD Projekt RED will release the final DLC for the 11-year-old The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, titled Songs of the Past. It will follow Geralt’s further adventures, taking him to a new region—Letten—and will also, in some way, lay the groundwork for the upcoming fourth game. Additionally, the DLC will focus particularly on Dandelion, as the story takes place in his homeland.

In a new interview with Tech Radar, Jakub Rokosz, CEO of Fool's Theory and game director of Songs of the Past, revealed that in the upcoming expansion, the studio plans to focus significantly on Dandelion—something they weren’t always able to do in the original game. Once again, it was mentioned that the DLC will portray him as a more serious character and, apparently, set him up for a role in The Witcher 4. “We always wanted to give Dandelion the proper spotlight he deserved. So we knew that there was no space in the base game to give him justice. That's what I wanted to say: Give justice to Dandelion.

We knew that at some point we wanted to address this thing. There's a misconception of him being this comedic relief, and this is his only role in the Witcher series, whereas that's not true. He's a very deep and intelligent character. He used to be a professor at Oxenfurt, and he writes beautiful poetry, so we want to show the players what's behind that mask of a joker, where he came from, what his family is about, what's the world where he grew up.”

In the same interview, Senior Quest Designer Despoina Anetaki expanded on Rokosz’s remarks, stating that Songs of the Past is positioned as the final missing piece of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Although Blood and Wine seemingly brought Geralt’s story to a close, the new DLC gives the character a compelling reason to return to the spotlight—as he must find and rescue his best friend.

Karolina Kuzia-Rokosz, Creative Vision Director at Fool's Theory, had also previously stated that Dandelion would be portrayed in a more serious role in Songs of the Past. Meanwhile, Karolina Kuzia-Rokosz, in a recent conversation with Fall Damage she revealed that the expansion, as well as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered—which is coming out this month—will include a new feature related to Roach. She added that not all players might like it, but the feature can be disabled if desired. Unfortunately, exactly what Kuzia-Rokosz was referring to remains unknown.

As for Dandelion, the character’s voice actor recently confirmed that Geralt’s best friend will return in The Witcher 4, though he did not reveal any details about his role. As you may know, last month CD Projekt RED confirmed that the fourth installment will release in 2028.

Songs of the Past, the new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, will release next year for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. The above-mentioned The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will be available on September 29 – owners of the original will get it for free.
