GTA 5 Turns 13 Years Old Today—The Game Was Released on September 17, 2013, for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3
Without a doubt, all fans are eagerly awaiting the release of GTA 6, which is set for November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. As this long-awaited date approaches, more and more players will find themselves reminiscing about the days when they were waiting for the release of GTA 5, which marks another anniversary today.
On September 17, 2013, Grand Theft Auto V was officially released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, becoming one of the most significant games of its generation. Its success was staggering: in the first 24 hours, sales reached $800 million, and within three days, revenue hit $1 billion. This was despite the game’s budget of about $260 million, which seemed like an unimaginable sum at the time. Nevertheless, it is reported the budget for GTA 6 will be 10 times bigger —about $2 billion—given how massive and detailed the game will be.
On October 1, 2013, GTA Online—the multiplayer mode for the fifth installment—was released. Although it faced some challenges at first, it is now the main financial driver for Rockstar Games. GTA 5 was subsequently released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, receiving significant graphical and other upgrades, including a first-person view, and later became available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S—platforms that account for the lion’s share of players.
GTA 5 TURNS 13 TODAY!
The only game I’ve played on Xbox 360, PC, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS5 and PS5 Pro.
I could still play GTA 5 today without getting bored, and I’m planning one final playthrough before GTA 6.
Thank you, Rockstar Games, for giving us a generational banger
GTA 5 has undoubtedly left a huge mark on gaming history and is one of the best games in the open-world action genre. It’s possible that, to mark the anniversary, Rockstar Games might make an announcement or just post a congratulatory message; this is especially likely given that Take-Two Interactive is holding its annual shareholders meeting today. When the company held its meeting in early August, it was revealed GTA 5 had sold 230 million copies —we’ll likely learn the updated figures today.
For now, you can also find out everything we know about GTA 6 so far—the story, gameplay, map, open world, platforms, and more - as well as everything about GTA 6 pre-order details: price, bonuses, exact time, and Ultimate Edition.
