GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 Sold 230 Million and 87 Million Copies, Respectively

Take-Two Interactive has released its financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, and while most gamers are mainly focused on the GTA 6 context, it's also come out that Rockstar Games older titles continue to sell exceptionally well.

Specifically, it has been revealed that Grand Theft Auto V has now sold 230 million copies, up 5 million from the previous report. Red Dead Redemption 2, meanwhile, has hit 87 million copies, adding 2 million more between the two reports.

As for other announcements, Take-Two also confirmed 29 projects are currently in development, with plans to release them by the end of fiscal year 2029. The only project with a confirmed release date is GTA 6 (November 19); among the projects mentioned in the report are 15 games based on existing franchises, 8 sports titles, 3 mobile games, and 3 brand-new IPs.

Meanwhile, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick also claimed GTA 6 pre-orders have significantly exceeded the company's expectations, hinting the number is incredibly high, though he didn't share the exact figure. He also weighed in on the shift toward fully digital game distribution, revealing he sees no issue with it, given that 90% of Take-Two's sales already come from digital products.
