Which Games Might Be Revealed or Announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026

Gamescom 2026, one of summer's biggest gaming events, is just around the corner. Kicking things off will be the traditional Opening Night Show, hosted by Geoff Keighley, which typically brings a mix of new announcements and updates on already-confirmed games. Here's a look at what might get announced or revealed at the event, now just hours away.

Resident Evil Requiem DLC

Capcom has confirmed its attendance at the show, and the studio will likely put most of its focus on Onimusha: Way of the Sword, releasing next week. That said, Resident Evil fans are hoping for something on Resident Evil Veronica. The remake's presence at Gamescom hasn't been confirmed, with insiders giving conflicting reports, but Capcom is also officially working on a story DLC for Resident Evil Requiem. Early reports point to a release next year, after Veronica, and given development has reportedly been underway for at least six months now, a short teaser wouldn't be out of the question.

New Injustice Video Game

It's been nearly three years since NetherRealm's last release, and rumors of a new Injustice game have persisted ever since. The studio hasn't officially confirmed anything, but creative director Ed Boon recently shared updated sales figures for the second game. Could that be a sign something is coming? We'll find out soon enough.

The Simpsons: Hit & Run Remake

One of the most eagerly awaited potential remakes right now is a refreshed take on The Simpsons: Hit & Run, the GTA-style game set in the show's universe, originally released by Radical Entertainment and Vivendi Universal Games in 2003. However, this no longer feels like wishful thinking. The original developer rebranded earlier this year as New Radical Games, and creators from the show itself have hinted at a possible remake, first showrunner Matt Selman, and more recently Matt Groening himself.

New Road 96 Title

As for already-confirmed projects, one likely candidate is the new Road 96 game, confirmed by developer DigixArt during the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase earlier this month. THQ is skipping Gamescom this year, but that doesn't rule out a new Road 96 game, or another title from the publisher, showing up at Opening Night Live, especially with fans still curious about what the new project will actually be.

Star Wars Jedi New Game and/or Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake

There are currently several Star Wars games in development, and unfortunately, work on some of them isn't going smoothly. One example is the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, announced back in 2021. According to one franchise insider, there is a chance the game could finally get unveiled this year, and Gamescom looks like a solid opportunity for that.

There have also been ongoing rumors about a new Star Wars Jedi game. Recent reports suggest Respawn Entertainment is hiring a Narrative Designer for a team working on a game featuring Cal Kestis, and earlier unconfirmed details about the plot and gameplay for a third installment had already circulated.

New Game from Xbox

Xbox is also reportedly set to announce a new game at Gamescom 2026, according to reliable insider NateTheHate, who added it will be a Microsoft-owned franchise developed by a third-party studio. One rumor pointed to a new Ori game from Saber Interactive, though it was denied by the CEO of Moon Studios, Thomas Mahler. A surprise reveal like The Evil Within 3 isn't out of the question either, given rumors along those lines and the fact that original developer Tango Gameworks can't make a new one on its own, since Microsoft owns the rights.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

For a lot of PlayStation 5 owners, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet remains the most anticipated exclusive, and some reports suggest Naughty Dog is targeting a release next summer. If that is accurate, more details should be coming soon, and if not at Gamescom, December's Game Awards feels like the obvious, if somewhat late, next opportunity. A new trailer would be a welcome reminder for fans and could shed more light on a game that's remained fairly mysterious since its 2024 announcement.

Despite this long list of rumored games still unannounced, it's probably smart to keep expectations for Opening Night Live realistic, not too high, but not too low either. Past years have seen announcements at this show for Resident Evil Requiem, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Dead Island 2, Mortal Kombat 1, and more.
